The Influence You Never Knew You Had
We rush through our days caught up in the familiar rhythms of life. Traffic jams, endless meetings, and laundry that never seems to end. These moments feel like the boring parts—just filler between what we imagine are the more significant chapters of our stories.
But there’s something deeper happening beneath the surface. In our hurry past these everyday moments, we’re missing invitations to a more meaningful way of being. Perhaps more importantly, the people around us are waiting for something we don’t even realize we carry.
While we’ve been looking everywhere else for meaning and purpose, we’ve been overlooking the fact that we’re already stewards of something significant.
Something beyond significant.
The same Divine presence we’re searching for in our biggest moments is actually fully present in our smallest ones. And it’s there – in all of your moments – that your God-given influence lies. Your little corner of the world—however ordinary it feels—matters more than you’ve ever dared to believe.
Influence
Influence isn’t just for people with huge platforms or fancy titles. If we’re really made in God’s image—and Scripture declares we are—then we all carry this incredible capacity to touch lives in ways we probably don’t even see.
There’s the teacher who doesn’t just teach math but makes that struggling kid feel like they matter. The friend whose creative work—a song, a painting, even the way they arrange their apartment—touches something deep in people’s hearts. The parent who turns bedtime stories into sacred moments their kids will carry forever.
We all walk around in circles of relationship where our words, our presence, the way we show up creates ripples we never get to see. The coworker who listens during rough patches, the grandparent whose stories give courage for battles ahead, the student whose simple kindness completely changes the atmosphere in a room.
These aren’t small things. These are moments where heaven breaks into everyday reality through people willing to be present.
Timing
It’s easy to feel like you’re in the wrong place at the wrong time. Stuck in a city that doesn’t feel like home, a job that seems beneath your capabilities, still waiting for real life to begin. The frustration is real.
But here’s something that changes everything. Scripture says God “marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.” Your timing isn’t off. You’re alive right now, in this exact moment in history, because that’s exactly when God wanted you here.
Where you live, where you work, even the relationships that challenge you most—all of it is part of a bigger story you can’t see yet. Not fate, not just accepting whatever happens, but recognizing that you were designed for this exact moment and this exact place.
All those skills you’ve picked up, the experiences that have shaped you, the relationships that have marked your journey—it’s all been preparing you for influence you haven’t even discovered yet.
Platform
When you start seeing your sphere of influence as something sacred—not just a place to voice opinions—everything changes. The people who listen to you, whether it’s one friend or a room full of people, that’s not just about you. It’s about the values and character you choose to put into the world.
For those following Jesus, there’s this beautiful invitation to let influence become a pipeline for God’s love to flow into ordinary moments. It happens in the simplest ways: the coffee conversation where you offer hope instead of just venting, the work decision where you choose integrity when no one would know the difference, the moment when you extend grace to someone who doesn’t deserve it.
These acts of faithfulness become windows where people see what God’s love actually looks like lived out through regular humans. Whether you’re influencing one person or thousands, every interaction is a chance to make God’s invisible character visible in the world.
Change
Once this perspective sinks in, your whole day-to-day existence looks different. Your job stops being just a paycheck and becomes a place where character and compassion can heal and inspire people. Your home isn’t just where you crash at night—it becomes a sanctuary where values get planted and grow. Your neighborhood stops being just an address and becomes a canvas where you paint God’s love through your unique personality and presence.
Living with this awareness means accepting that your life, even when nobody famous notices, carries significance that ripples into eternity. Every ordinary moment becomes pregnant with possibility. Every conversation becomes a doorway to something sacred. Every single day becomes an opportunity to participate in something so much bigger than yourself.
The question isn’t whether you have influence—you do. The real question is what you’ll do with this sacred trust. Will your presence in the world just serve your own interests, or will you let it become a channel for healing, hope, and transformation? Will your words and actions leave people feeling heavier, or will they point toward the freedom and love that every heart secretly longs for?
Here’s the invitation: step fully into the influence you’ve already been given. Steward it with the reverence it deserves. Trust that even your smallest acts of love create ripples you’ll never see this side of heaven.
The world is waiting for what you have to offer. Not someday when you get your act together, not somewhere else when circumstances change, but right here, right now, in the beautiful ordinariness of today.
Location
As you move through your regular routines this week, carry this question: Where has God strategically placed you in this season? How can your unique circle of influence—however small it feels—become a channel for divine love in the days ahead?
The sacred is waiting to be recognized in your ordinary moments. Your influence, however quiet it seems, is both real and necessary. The question is: are you ready to see it?
